Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto
After months of merely saying he had no plans to run, Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto has put an end to speculation by confirming he will not seek any position in the 2028 elections.
Sotto made the statement on Monday, June 30, during the turnover ceremony of incoming elected officials 2025-2028 in Barangay Rosario.
“2028, hindi ako tatakbo. Ngayon pa lang sinasabi ko na sa inyo, kaya malaya akong gawin kung ano ang tingin kong tama (I’m not running in 2028. I’m telling you now, so I can freely do what I believe is right),” Sotto said.
Sotto’s early declaration serves as an assurance, as he calls for peace and unity with his former opponents, saying that it is not politically motivated but rooted in what is best for the city.
“Hindi ninyo masasabihan na may bahid ng politika. At yung hindi ko masabi nung campaign period, ngayon p'wede ko na pong sabihin (This can’t be seen as politically motivated. What I couldn’t say during the campaign, I’m now free to say),” he said.
“Sa lahat ng aming katunggali, we extend a hand of peace, we extend a hand of unity. Kung maaari, magtulungan tayo para sa ikagaganda ng ating lungsod (To all our opponents, we offer peace and unity. If we can, let’s work together for the betterment of our city),” he added.
He said he is ready to work with anyone who shares the goal of making Pasig an even better city.
