IBAAN, Batangas – The Catandala Bridge in this town was inaugurated on Thursday, June 26, after a 42-year wait.
The bridge reconnecting Barangays Catandala, Mavalor, and Panghayaan was built for P270 million, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 4-A said.
The DPWH-Batangas 4th Engineering District Office said the bridge is 121 meters in length, 13 meters in width, and stands 24 meters above the Calumpang River.
It is equipped with sidewalks, guardrails, wheel guards, and a viewing deck.
Construction started in 2022.
A bamboo bridge connected the three barangays but was destroyed by a massive flood in 1982 and was never rebuilt.
Rep. Lianda Bolilia of the fourth district of Batangas said the dream of the people here has been realized after more than three years and three months of construction.
Ibaan Mayor Joy Salvame said this is one of the legacies that will not only benefit residents but also the neighboring towns of Rosario and Taysan.
Salvame said the state-of-the-art bridge will make transportation and delivery of goods faster and safer.
