2 more pro-Duterte rallies in South Korea, Kuwait lined up

As former president Rodrigo Duterte continues to languish in the detention facility of the International Criminal Court (ICC), at least two “Free Duterte Now” rallies are scheduled to be held in July and August, with Vice President Sara Duterte possibly gracing the events.

In a media interview in Davao City last week, the Vice President revealed that there will be a “Free Duterte Rally” in Kuwait on Aug. 8 and possibly another one in South Korea on July 28, though the South Korea schedule is still “on hold.”

The younger Duterte said she will try, as much as possible, to attend rallies abroad in support of her detained father.

“Sinusubukan namin. Nagdedepende kami sa invitation ng Filipino Community abroad. So, right now meron kaming naka-hold na Korea and merong confirmed na Kuwait sa August 8 (We are trying. We also depend on the invitation of the Filipino Community abroad. So, right now, we have one on hold in Korea and another confirmed in Kuwait on August 8),” she said, noting that the South Korea schedule is still being finalized.

The official also explained how the expenses are being divided between her and the organizers, clarifying as well that no government funds were used in her personal trips.

“Sila nagbabayad ng events. Kasi oo, sa kanila ‘yung organization, event, coordination permits, lahat-lahat. ‘Yung travel ko, sa akin (They pay for the events. Yes, they handle the organization, event, coordination permits, and everything. My travel is mine),” she said.

“‘Pag personal siya (If it’s personal), no government funds are used,” Duterte stressed.

Personal trips

The Vice President also hit back at Malacañang for saying that she is obliged to explain her accomplishments after official trips.

“Opo, yan yung example ko sa inyo na b*b* talaga. Diba? Hindi nga official business yung...Kailangan ko pa ba mag-explain (Yes, that’s an example that they’re really stupid. Right? It’s really not an official business… do I still need to explain)?,” she asked.

“Kapag gumagamit ka, pera ng gobyerno, iyan yung official business. Kapag hindi mo ginagamit yung pera ng gobyerno, mag-leave ka at yan yung personal (If you used government funds, that’s official business. When you don’t use government money, you are on leave and it’s personal),” she explained.

During official business, the Vice President said she would need to submit a report but since her recent trips were not official, then there is no need for her to submit one.

She was in The Hague, Netherlands in May to celebrate her birthday with her father, and in Malaysia and Australia this June.

A Facebook post by a Duterte supporter showed that another rally is scheduled in The Hague on July 19, with the post inviting Filipinos to “rally together” and “let our voices echo through the streets.”
