ILOILO CITY – Police Regional Office-6 chief Police Brig. Gen. Josefino Ligan said people can call for police assistance at world-famous Boracay Island by dialing 911.
Ligan walked on the famous stretch of white sand beach at the country’s most famous beach destination in Malay town of Aklan province over the weekend and personally distributed 911 emergency cards to tourists, workers, and residents.
“Tumawag ka lang at darating kami sa loob ng limang minuto (Just call and we will arrive within five minutes),” Ligan told a visitor.
Ligan conducted a command conference with Police Col. Arnel Ramos of the Aklan Police Provincial Office and Police Lt. Col. Mar Joseph Ravelo of the Malay Municipal Police Station in his first official visit to Boracay as PRO-6 head.
Ligan reiterated that the five-minute response is still a top priority in accordance with the policy of Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III.
Ligan said every police officer in Boracay must be fully capable and mission-ready to be able to conduct a reliable, responsive, and efficient policing.
High-profile crimes have been reported in Boracay recently.
These include the rape and murder of Slovakian tourist Michaela Mickova last March and the mauling of the son and nephew of Sen. Jinggoy Estrada last May.
