Award-winning broadcast journalist Rico Hizon got a scoop when he interviewed the man behind the voice straight from the heart of the most famous house in the country: the iconic Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) home in Quezon City.
It was the first time the famous brother granted a one-on-one interview since the show debuted in August 2005. Kuya opened the door to the Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab Edition with Rico on the show 'Beyond the Exchange' on ABS-CBN.
Rico described his moment in the PBB confession room as surreal while speaking to Kuya. 'I hear your voice, and you say my name inside the confession room. I have been watching your show for the past 20 years, and now I'm here inside your house.'
The new season of PBB premiered on March 9, marking another groundbreaking collaboration between GMA Network and ABS-CBN Studios. The special edition promises a season filled with exciting surprises and unforgettable moments as PBB celebrates its 20th anniversary.
Explore the captivating highlights of an interview with the legendary Kuya, who opened up about his most unforgettable housemates and the legacy he aspires to leave behind for the show.
Rico: Have you had a rest, brother?
Kuya: I am constantly checking on my housemates, especially since the season is still ongoing.
Rico: Who are your most memorable housemates?
Kuya: I have met many housemates in my house. Several seasons have passed, and some have stood out because of their courage to change, face themselves, and embrace their weaknesses. But I will never forget all the housemates I have had. Everyone always has a special place here in my house.
Rico: How did you become the voice of PBB?
Kuya: I own this house. I don't need to audition to own this house.
Rico: When the housemates are sleeping, what do you do?
Kuya: I also have other things to do. But I'm always watching my housemates.
Rico: Do you also sleep or stay awake?
Kuya: I'm also resting.
Rico: Do you exercise like housemates?
Kuya: It's always best to maintain your health.
Rico: What do you eat to stay fit and healthy?
Kuya: A balanced diet is always best, and enough sleep. That's what I tell the housemates.
Rico: You have a good speaking voice. Do you do a vocal warm-up when you talk to the housemates?
Kuya: Thank you very much. Your voice is just like mine.
Rico: Do you sing?
Kuya: We can prepare for that.
Rico: Where do you get the advice for the housemates?
Kuya: In each story, there are different perspectives. In their stories, I must listen to everything. As an older brother, I must understand everything. Everything has an origin that must be understood. In the past, there have been many editions. I have met many people. I have also learned from them through their life stories. I have learned a lot.
Rico: Your most memorable moment inside the PBB?
Kuya: I regard every moment with the housemates as remarkable.
Rico: Were there moments when you wanted to laugh or respond, but you held back?
Kuya: I'm not always serious. I'm not a robot.
Rico: What lessons have you learned from this edition?
Kuya: I witnessed an important collaboration. Not just with celebrities from different companies. I also observed how individuals with diverse personalities could collaborate to gain a deeper understanding, learn from one another, and appreciate each other's beliefs and perspectives. For me, that's what's essential for each of my housemates to learn from.
Rico: Can you be a housemate?
Kuya: I think I'm more suited to giving advice and being an older brother here in my house
Rico: What legacy would you like to leave behind for PBB?
Kuya: Maybe my house is open to everyone so that many can experience and change.
Rico: Will I pass PBB as a housemate? Be honest.
Kuya: All my housemates went through the process, screening, and audition. I'll ask you the question again: why do you deserve to stay in my house and be my housemate? If you can answer that, I'm ready to let you stay here in my house. If you want, right now?
Rico laughed and begged off from Kuya's challenge. 'I need to finish this interview, which we will air in Beyond the Exchange.' The full interview:
