PAGASA: 'Habagat' to bring rain showers across the Philippines; LPA forms outside PAR
The southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” continues to bring cloudy skies and scattered rain showers over several parts of the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported on Sunday, June 29.
A low-pressure area (LPA) was also spotted around 8 a.m. approximately 1,410 kilometers east of Central Luzon.
PAGASA said the weather disturbance has a slim chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.
Weather specialist Obet Badrina said light to occasional heavy rain is expected over western parts of the country, including Metro Manila, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, Soccsksargen, and the entire Visayas due to the habagat.
Meanwhile, other parts of the country may experience localized thunderstorms that last one to two hours, bringing rain, lightning, and thunder.
The public is advised to remain vigilant for possible flash floods and landslides, especially during moderate to heavy rainfall or severe thunderstorms.
