New PSC Chairman Patrick Gregorio: 'Let my leadership inspire'

Patrick “Pato” Gregorio has vowed to continue efforts to boost the growth of Philippine sports following his appointment as the new chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

In a statement, Gregorio thanked President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. for the trust placed in him, adding that it is his honor and privilege to serve the country’s government sports agency.

“Let my leadership inspire, as I have been inspired by the sheer potential of Philippine sports—to build and strengthen this proud nation,” Gregorio said. “Karangalan ko ang magsilbi sa bayan at sa mga atleta ng bayan,” he added.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin confirmed Gregorio’s appointment on Saturday, June 28, through a message to Palace reporters.

A former chairman of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and the current president of the Philippine Rowing Association—which has produced two Olympians—Gregorio succeeds Richard “Dickie” Bachmann, who was appointed in December 2022.

Gregorio is expected to have his hands full as the country gears up for major international competitions, including the 33rd Southeast Asian Games scheduled for December 9 to 20 in Thailand.

Other national athletes are also competing abroad as part of their preparations for the 20th Asian Games in Japan next year.

Gregorio also noted that they are finalizing plans to hold an election within the rowing association following his PSC appointment.

“We need to elect a PRA president soon—probably in July,” he said.
