Helmetless rider caught with stolen motorcycle, illegal firearm in QC

Authorities arrested a rider in Quezon City after a two-minute chase when he tried to flee upon being flagged down for not wearing a helmet and was later found using a carnapped motorcycle and carrying an illegal firearm.
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) arrested the suspect, identified as “Del,” 30, during an anti-criminality operation conducted by the District Anti-Carnapping Unit (DACU) in Barangay Obrero on Friday, June 27.
Based on the initial investigation, DACU operatives were conducting an anti-carnapping patrol when they saw the suspect riding a black motorcycle without a helmet, prompting them to flag him down for verification.
However, instead of complying, the suspect sped off, and a brief chase ensued. He was eventually cornered at the intersection of Scout Santiago and Scout Ojeda in Barangay Obrero.
After stopping the suspect, they instructed him to raise his hands as a safety precaution, during which they saw a handgun tucked into his waist.
They asked him to present documents for the firearm, but he failed to provide any, leading to his immediate arrest.
Recovered from his possession were a caliber .38 revolver, five pieces of live ammunition, and a Honda Click motorcycle.

Police also discovered that the suspect had previous cases of theft in December 2021 and January and September 2022, as well as a violation of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) in January 2021.
The suspect is now detained, and charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) and Presidential Decree 1612 (Anti-Fencing Law) will be filed against him before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
