The sandbag barrier, installed as a temporary flood defense following structural damage to the original river wall, had a hole or break on Sunday, June 29, weakening its capacity to hold back rising water levels.
According to the Navotas Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), high tide is expected at 1:07 p.m. this afternoon.
Preemptive evacuation of residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas was already conducted ahead of the breach.
Authorities warn that floodwaters may overflow onto nearby roads during the peak of the high tide and are urging residents to remain alert for further updates.
This is a developing story.
