“I still do not know where I’ll be that day. I haven’t finalized my schedule yet,” Vice President Duterte said. “We’ll see, maybe I will change my mind and decide to attend,” said Duterte.
Vice President Duterte once again declined to confirm or deny plans to run for president in 2028 despite emerging as the top choice in a recent nationwide presidential preference survey.
She downplayed the significance of early polling results, stressing that it is still too early to draw conclusions based on surveys conducted three years before the next national elections.
Vice President Duterte and Sen. Bong Go have surfaced as the leading contenders in the 2028 presidential and vice-presidential elections, respectively, based on the survey.
The mobile survey from June 20 and 22 said that she is ahead in the presidential race with 35 percent of voter support, a six-point increase compared to the previous month, largely fueled by strong backing from Davao and Northern Mindanao.
“2028 is still too far away for us to use current surveys as a reliable basis. The most meaningful surveys are those conducted when the official candidates for a particular position have already been identified,” Vice President Duterte said.
According to the Vice President, preference polls are more useful when the field of candidates is already clear, as numbers are better distributed and more reflective of public sentiment once official campaigns begin.
