Over 30,000 senior citizens, PWDs get free full multivitamin doses, maintenance meds from Makati
Makati City Mayor Abby Binay
Makati City Mayor Abby Binay on Friday, June 27, announced that the city government is now providing full doses of free multivitamins and maintenance medications to over 30,000 senior citizens aged 60 to 69 and persons with disabilities (PWDs) as part of its expanded medical service program for residents.
“The expansion will directly benefit 15,149 senior citizens in the 60-69 age bracket, along with 15,748 registered PWDs in Makati City. Combined, this initiative will serve over 30,000 new beneficiaries who will now have access to free essential medications through Planet Drugstores in health centers, Ospital ng Makati, and Makati Life Medical Center,” Binay said.
Previously, only senior citizens aged 70 and above were entitled to receive the full dose of their maintenance medicines under the free medicines program.
The rest of the beneficiaries, including those below 70, PWDs, and city government employees, receive half a month's supply of maintenance medications.
“The enhanced program represents a major step forward in my administration’s commitment to provide accessible healthcare for its most vulnerable residents,” the mayor noted.
During Binay's nine-year term, the OsMak reported nearly five million free healthcare interactions delivered to almost two million patients.
The initiative also builds on Makati's established healthcare infrastructure, including OsMak's 92-percent recovery rate and comprehensive services that have already treated nearly 2 million patients.
For the past nine years, special healthcare programs have delivered life-saving services to thousands of patients.
The Unli Dialysis program, which started in 2017, served 32,951 patients who needed kidney treatment to stay alive.
The subsidized Ambulatory Chemotherapy Program has also provided cancer treatment to 11,364 qualified patients since it began in September of 2017.
