Construction of the Samal Island–Davao City Connector (SIDC) Bridge exceeded its target progress under the Department of Public Works and Highways’ (DPWH) infrastructure program in Mindanao.
In a report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, Senior Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain said the bridge has reached 38 percent completion—more than double its 16-percent target.
The project is implemented by the DPWH Unified Project Management Office–Bridges Management Cluster (UPMO-BMC), with China Road and Bridge Corporation as contractor, and is funded through Official Development Assistance (ODA) from the Government of the People’s Republic of China.
Once completed, the toll-free, four-lane extradosed bridge will span 4.76 kilometers, connecting Davao City to the Samal Circumferential Road and reducing travel time between the island and the mainland.
The bridge is part of the Marcos administration’s “Bagong Pilipinas” agenda, which aims to expand infrastructure and spur inclusive growth in key regions such as Mindanao.
On Jun. 27, Sadain conducted an on-site inspection of the ongoing works, which include the construction of the main span, marine crossing, ramps, and viaducts on both ends.
Right-of-way acquisition continues, with most affected lots already secured across Davao City and Samal Island.
The Davao-Samal bridge is seen to enhance inter-island connectivity, improve mobility, and support economic development in the region.
