Six Filipinos from Iran were flown back to the country on Saturday, June 28, as part of the repatriation program of the Philippine government following the air war between Israel and Iran.
Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan welcomed the six Filipinos after their plane arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 on Saturday morning.
Those who were repatriated were five overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) employed as shrimp hatchery technicians in Iran. The sixth Filipino is domestic worker based in Duba who just accompanied her employer to Iran as a tourist but was trapped in the Middle East country.
They are the first batch of Filipinos repatriated from Iran following the June 13 Israel-Iran conflict.
Upon arrival, the workers received financial assistance from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), OWWA and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
They were also provided with food and medical services by the airport medical team.
“OWWA will provide temporary hotel accommodations and domestic flights back to their home provinces,” said Caunan.
Two more Filipino workers are expected to arrive on Saturday evening from Iran.
The DMW and the Department of Foreign Affairs earlier repatriated more than 50 OFWs from Israel.
