Vice President Sara Duterte has been ridiculed anew for not backing up her supposed desire for a ''bloodbath'' impeachment trial.
The latest to do so was House prosecution panel spokesman Antonio Bucoy, who in a press conference Friday, June 28 said he was witnessing a ''bubble bath'' instead from the Duterte camp.
“Di ba sabi niya gusto niya ng trial, she wants a bloodbath? Eh bubble bath eh. Hindi bloodbath (Didn't she say that she wants a trial, she wants a bloodbath? It has become a bubble bath. Not a bloodbath)'', Bucoy said.
The lawyer-spokesman's comments stemmed from Duterte’s answer ad cautelam to the seven articles of impeachment lodged against her by the House through the Senate impeachment court.
Bucoy said that instead of addressing the allegations head-on, Duterte’s legal team has sought to dismiss the impeachment complaint outright due to alleged technical issues. This means that if the lady official would have her way, there would be no impeachment trial at all.
The prosecution on Friday filed before the Senate its formal reply to Duterte’s answer ad cautelam, wherein it asserted that the Vice President’s pleading was riddled with “misconceptions, falsehood and general denial''.
Bucoy noted that the defense failed to answer factual allegations specifically, instead offering broad denials without explanation.
Earlier this week, House of Representatives spokesperson, lawyer Princess Abante also made a tongue-in-cheek comment about the Vice President's bloodbath rhetoric.
''Ah baka wisik-wisik lang daw muna (Ah maybe it's just sprinkle-sprinkle for now),'' Abante said.
Abante agreed with Bucoy that the ad cautelam was contrary to Duterte's previous tough talk wherein she allegedly wanted a bloodbath to take place in the Senate impeachment trial.
