LUCENA CITY, Quezon – A 31-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly selling her baby to a couple in this city.
Police said the baby’s mother approached a 49-year-old midwife of a clinic and asked her if she could help her sell her child.
The midwife found a couple willing to purchase the baby who was born this month for P13,000.
The couple bought the baby on June 21. The baby’s mother changed her mind and wanted to get her baby back and return the money.
The couple agreed to return the baby and set up a meeting where her mother agreed to sell her again for P52,000.
However, her mother’s companion reported the transaction to the police who, with the City Social Welfare and Development Office, conducted validation and rescued the baby on Thursday afternoon, June 26.
The couple, the midwife, and the baby’s mother were arrested. Recovered from the girl’s mother were P43,500 cash and smartphone.
The baby was turned over to CSWDO for proper documentation and intervention.
The suspects face human trafficking complaints.
