What will be the fate of Seong Gi-hun?
On June 27, Netflix released the third and final season of the hit Korean series “Squid Game,” which has drawn worldwide attention since its debut in September 2021.
The six-episode season 3 will wrap up “Squid Game,” a series about 456 players who enter and play deadly children’s games to win 45.6 billion won (about $33.5 million).
Lee Jung-jae is back as Seong Gi-hun in season 3 along with Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, Kang Ha-neul, Yim Si-wan, Jo Yuri, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Roh Jae-won and Park Gyu-young.
Netflix released the first six minutes of “Squid Game” season 3’s episode 1 in which the Pink Guards bring Gi-hun in the gift-box coffin to the players’ dormitory.
“You’re alive,” player No. 149 Jang Geum-ja (played by Kang Ae-shim) told Gi-hun when he opened his eyes.
“When the coffin is opened, Gi-hun is reborn. He has to go back to the competition, play the game again, and make choices again,” Lee Jung-jae explained, according to Tudum.com.
Season 3 highlights the battle between Gi-hun and the Front Man (played by Lee Byung-hun).
Hwang Dong-hyuk, the director and creator of “Squid Game,” said, “For Front Man, sending Gi-hun back to the game — rather than killing him — makes sense. He wants Gi-hun to really feel and understand the heavy price of his own mistakes. Front Man wants Gi-hun to be driven to a state where he will finally give up his faith in humanity as well as faith in himself. It's important for the Front Man that Gi-hun returns to the game.”
“Front Man wants to dismantle the noble belief that Gi-hun holds on to. Front Man believes that Gi-hun will inevitably change to think just like him,” said Lee Byung-hun.
Will “Squid Game” season 3 eclipse the record of season 1? “Squid Game” season 1 holds the record as the most watched title on Netflix with 265.2 million views or 2.2 billion hours viewed.
Netflix’s top 10 most popular list ranks movies and shows “based on the views of each title in its first 91 days.”
