A dump truck driver was arrested after running over and killing a 20-year-old woman in Rodriguez, Rizal, authorities said on Thursday, June 26.
Based on the investigation, the victim was riding a motorcycle with her live-in partner and a female friend along Barangay Burgos early Sunday, June 22.
When they reached A. Mabini Street, their motorcycle was allegedly sideswiped by the truck, causing them to fall on the ground.
The Rodriguez Municipal Police Station (MPS) said the truck driver allegedly failed to notice the accident and continued driving, running over the victim. Police called it a hit-and-run incident.
The victim's partner is currently reported to be in critical condition, while their female friend has already been discharged from the hospital.
The truck driver claimed that he did not notice the victims' motorcycle, which he said had overtaken his vehicle.
He added that he tried to swerve upon seeing two of the individuals but was unaware that one of the victims had already slipped underneath the truck.
The driver is now detained at the Rodriguez Custodial Facility and is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, multiple physical injuries, and abandonment of one’s own victim.
