The Philippines is set to make history this July with the launch of its first national quantum technology conference, QISTCon.ph 2025, scheduled for July 30 to August 1 at JPark Island Resort & Waterpark in Cebu.
The event, short for Quantum Information, Science, and Technology Conference, is spearheaded by the Quantum Computing Society of the Philippines (QCSP) in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology’s PCIEERD, the Open Quantum Institute (OQI), GESDA, and academic institutions including Cebu Institute of Technology–University and the University of San Carlos.
More than 100 invited participants are expected to attend, including global quantum experts, scientists, educators, industry leaders, tech startups, investors, and students. Organizers say the event aims to ignite a national dialogue on how quantum technology can benefit the country and the Southeast Asian region.
Building the Philippines' Quantum Future
QISTCon.ph 2025 aims to move beyond theory by encouraging practical discussions and strategic planning. Key topics on the agenda include developing a national quantum roadmap, integrating quantum concepts into Philippine education systems, engaging industries to explore potential applications, and promoting regional cooperation across the Indo-Pacific.
The event will also address ethical, security, and sustainability challenges posed by the rise of quantum technologies.
High-Level Participation Across Sectors
Confirmed participants include major global players such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), IBM, and Microsoft, as well as consulting and professional services firms like Deloitte and SGV (Ernst & Young). Local and international academics, government policymakers, and grassroots tech advocates are also expected to contribute.
Organizers and Partners
QISTCon.ph is led by QCSP President Bobby Corpus and supported by a dedicated team that includes Dylan Josh Lopez as Director for Partnerships, Jabez Ayson as Director of Operations, and Stefany Caparida, who serves as the QCSP Chapter Lead at MSU-IIT. The organizing committee works closely with key collaborators such as Meraida Reyes and Ariane Jaraplasan from DOST-PCIEERD, Marianne Schoerling and Elias Huber of the Open Quantum Institute and GESDA, Cherry-Lyn Sta. Romana of Cebu Institute of Technology–University, and Dr. Roland Otadoy from the University of San Carlos. The event also benefits from the involvement of international experts from the Responsible Quantum Computing and Science and Education Group for Quantum Responsibility (ResQC/SEGQuRo), including Clara Fontaine Yun, Angelina Frank, Zeki Seskir, and Lia Yeh.
A Milestone for Philippine Tech Advancement
Organizers say QISTCon.ph 2025 represents a bold step toward positioning the Philippines in the global quantum ecosystem. With growing interest in quantum applications for computing, cybersecurity, materials science, and more, the conference hopes to accelerate awareness, investment, and research in this frontier field.
