A total of 340 students from the municipality of Kapalong in Davao del Norte have joined the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES), the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) flagship initiative promoting youth employability and access to education.
DOLE said the program supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to enhance youth employment by providing underprivileged but deserving students with income and hands-on work experience.
From 1,100 applicants, 445 advanced to the interview stage, with selected students deployed to government offices and private partners in Kapalong, each earning a daily wage of P553.
To prepare them for deployment, DOLE Davao del Norte and the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Kapalong conducted an orientation on Jun. 4, outlining the program’s objectives and participant responsibilities.
DOLE Senior Labor and Employment Officer Jennylyn M. Rosalinda said SPES serves as a meaningful avenue for youth to develop work values, life skills, and a sense of public service.
All participants were enrolled in the Group Personal Accident Insurance (GPAI) to ensure their protection during the course of their employment.
DOLE Regional Office XI Director Randolf C. Pensoy said the continued rollout of the program reflects the agency’s commitment to empowering the youth while strengthening local communities.
He credited the program’s success to the strong partnership between DOLE and PESO Kapalong in delivering opportunities for young Filipinos in the province.
