Borongan city council issues resolution vs destructive mining
TACLOBAN CITY – The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Borongan City has passed Resolution No. 59, Series of 2025, opposing destructive mining activities.
It called on government agencies to safeguard the city’s environment, resources, and communities.
The resolution aligns with Mayor Dayan Agda’s firm opposition to any potential mineral mining activity in the city.
The local chief executive revealed in meetings that the Mines and Geosciences Bureau has opened several areas in Borongan to mining applications.
The resolution urged the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-MGB and other relevant agencies to deny or revoke any permits or mining applications that threaten the ecological city’s integrity.
It enjoined all barangays, civil society organizations, church groups, youth, and other stakeholders to “remain vigilant and united in protecting the natural environment of Borongan for the benefit of current and future generations.”
