BACOLOD CITY – Five people were killed when a mini-dump truck with 24 passengers overturned in Barangay Guimbalaon, Silay City, Negros Occidental on Friday morning, June 27.
Police Lt. Grace Eran, administrative officer of the Silay City Police Station, identified the fatalities as Rafael Jardiolin Jr., Alexander Balili, Eldie Naguita, and Sheena Dimson, and one unidentified person.
Eran said they were on their way to a tree-planting activity when the accident occurred at 10 a.m.
Police said the driver lost control of the truck as the brakes failed and the vehicle swerved.
Seven individuals sustained serious injuries and 13 had minor wounds.
Eran said that some of the passengers were thrown off and others were pinned under the vehicle.
The injured were taken to a hospital.
Police are conducting follow-up investigation.
