Vice President Sara Duterte's name-calling—particularly when she referred to the government as ''stupid'' for criticizing her frequent foreign travels—is uncalled for and only reflects the attitude of the office she runs, two congressmen said on Thursday, June 26.
Manila 1st district Rep. Ernix Dionisio and Lanao del Sur 1st district Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong slammed Duterte for her unsavory utterances, which they said should be avoided.
Adiong says that public officials must consistently call out their fellow officials for making bad utterances, sentences, words, or phrases.
''When she speaks of certain things, uttering words, it does not only reflect her own personality. But it also reflects the office she occupies, which to us should be held in higher stands,'' he said.
For Dionisio, public officials like the Vice President must follow a certain decorum. He said name-calling and negative remarks would not result in anything good.
Adiong said that public officials should maintain a semblance of respect and diplomacy whenever they engage with fellow public officials.
Duterte was called out by the administration for her frequent out-of-the-country trips.
The impeached Vice President retaliated, and said that the administration was bobo (stupid) for not being able to understand the reason behind her travels.
Adiong says it is only normal to question Duterte's trips because as an official, she is expected by the public to be present in the country that she is supposed to serve.
