Popular fashion designer Renee Salud and hairdresser Ricky Reyes shared their journeys from humble beginnings to becoming icons during a recent interview for Toni Talks on YouTube.
Renee and Ricky also gave their unsolicited advice to gay men in terms of being in a relationship with real men.
Mother Ricky, 75, emphasized that real men would always seek a woman for a lasting relationship.
'You're lucky if a real man goes with you for a walk. But once they find the right woman, they will leave you. And you will be hurt. So don't expect so much from them. Learn how to distance yourself when the time comes,' Ricky said. 'Be practical, and you should know your limitations.'
Ricky likened a relationship to music. 'Just like music, it has a beginning and an ending. If you're finished, move out. No more pulling of sleeves.'
Asked if a gay man could find true love in a real man, Ricky answered: 'You have to keep trying. A real man in a gay relationship thinks he's a sex object. Gay men should learn to give love and importance to others.'
Mama Renee, 77, however, lamented that his former boyfriend had ghosted him, even though he had given everything to him. 'I was dropped like a hot potato.'
Ricky, who has been with his partner for 49 years, pointed out that people deserve to love and be loved.
'If you find a partner, enjoy the fireworks. And then if you are aged, there is more to love than just making love,' Ricky added.
On secrets to lasting gay relationships, Ricky said gay men should act like women.
'Feel like a woman. You should be submissive. You should not act like a modern woman. If you act like a modern woman, chances are you will lose your husband. There should be no limits when you love a person. If you love the person, you should always be there for them, whatever happens,' Ricky added.
Renee suggests that being partners is better than getting married.
'If you were after legalities regarding your properties, I think it's better if you become partners. You can talk about it,' Renee said.
Ricky said marriage is only for a man and a woman, which God created since the beginning of time. 'Let's not destroy what God has created. That's overboarding.'
