Pasig City was one of three cities in the country named as global finalists in the 2025 Bloomberg Mayors Challenge, an international competition that supports and recognizes innovative solutions to common city problems.
It joins 47 other cities worldwide that were also selected for developing ideas aimed at improving how local governments serve their people.
This year’s competition highlights ideas focused on sustainability, public health, job creation, and basic services, which are key areas where finalists are expected to test and refine new approaches with support from the program.
As Bloomberg Philanthropies' local partner, Liveable Cities Philippines praised Pasig, as well as Naga City and Cauayan in Isabela, for their practical ideas that respond to real community needs.
“These recognitions show that cities in the Philippines are thinking ahead and acting on the challenges they face,” said Guillermo M. Luz, chairman of Liveable Cities Philippines.
“Local leaders are closest to the people. When given the space and support, they find ways to solve problems and improve lives,” he added.
All 50 finalists will receive expert support over the next few months to further develop their ideas.
In early 2026, 25 cities will be chosen to receive $1 million each to implement their projects.
Liveable Cities Philippines said that it will continue working with Pasig, Naga, and Cauayan cities as they prepare for the next round of the challenge and further develop their proposals.
