In a statement on Thursday, June 26, the embassy warned Filipinos of the disinformation circulating on social media platforms which has been causing concern among the Filipino community in the US.
Filipinos were told to verify information through official sources and avoid sharing unverified contents.
“The US government has made no policy changes regarding dual citizenship or lawful permanent resident travel rights,” the embassy said.
“We urge the Filipino community to verify information through official government sources, avoid sharing unverified content, and report false information to the platform where it is published,” the embassy added.
The Philippine Embassy also called on Filipinos to refrain from renouncing their Philippine citizenship due to the circulating false information.
“Please do not make legal decisions, such as renouncing your Philippine citizenship, based on social media content. Renunciation of Philippine citizenship is a serious, irreversible legal action,” the embassy said.
Filipinos were also urged to contact the Philippine Embassy or the nearest Philippine consulate in their area if they have any queries.
