A rally reportedly organized by an LGBTQIA+ group was disrupted early Thursday morning, June 26, along Recto Avenue in Manila.
The demonstration began peacefully around 9 a.m. but was later halted.
Several lines of police in helmets and shields blocked the protesters’ route toward Mendiola.
The rallyists were stopped in front of the University of the East building.
Bystanders said the protesters attempted to proceed but the police did not allow them.
The Manila Police District has not released a statement whether or not the rally had a permit.
Additional police forces continue to arrive at the scene to manage the situation and ensure public safety.
No official statements have been issued by the organizers or authorities regarding any arrests or injuries.
The incident also caused traffic congestion in the area, affecting commuters and motorists along Recto Avenue and nearby roads.
