Actress Janine Gutierrez has announced that the documentary about her late grandmother, Asia's Queen of Songs Pilita Corrales, is moving forward.
During an ambush interview at the launch of her latest endorsement recently, Janine stated that she remains active in pursuing the project, even after Pilita's passing.
'We're pushing through. Mas lalo akong ganado to pay tribute to her (I'm even more eager to pay tribute to her). Our next step is to interview the people close to her. Priority ko ang project na ito ngayon (This project is a priority),' said Janine when asked about the update for Pilita's planned documentary project.
No date has been targeted for its release. However, several groups have partnered with Janine's family to produce the documentary. It is worth recalling that the project began when the music icon was still alive.
Janine said that more interesting details about Pilita, which people haven't known, would be revealed in the documentary.
Pilita passed away on April 12, 2025, at 87. Aside from her, Janine also prayed for the deaths of immediate family members, National Artist Nora Aunor, her grandmother, and Ricky Davao, her uncle. Nora, 71, passed away on April 16, 2025. Ricky, 62, died on May 2, 2025. Pilita is the mother of actors Jackie Lou Blanco and Ramon Christopher, who was married to Lotlot De Leon, mom of Janine. Nora or Ate Guy is the mother of Lotlot, while Ricky was formerly married to Jackie Lou.
'Still surviving. Malungkot pa rin. Nagsabay-sabay na nangyari. (It's still sad. It happened almost simultaneously.) We lost three family members in weeks,' said Janine when asked how she was doing after three people close to her had passed on during an interview.
Janine added, 'There are good and bad days. But it is a testament to how important our family is. Naramdaman talaga namin yung support ng isa't isa.'
She recalled that she was a bit nervous going to St. Luke's in BGC, where her uncle Ricky had been before his passing.
'Coming here (at St Luke's), medyo kinakabahan ako kasi my uncle was rushed to the ICU here. So parang fresh pa (yung nangyari). (Coming here at St Luke's, I was a little nervous because my uncle was rushed to the ICU here. So it still seems fresh (what happened),' the actress also said.
'So part of my message is that you don't know what's going to happen. And no matter how prepared you think you are, it's so important to have people you can rely on,' she added.
