HUMAN fetus dumped in Baguio City
Garbage collectors discovered the fetus in a sack in a garbage can in Barangay Upper Rock Quarry on June 25 with fresh blood dripping at around 7 a.m.
They reported their discovery to the barangay which informed the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), the Baguio City Police Office-Station 5, and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office-Operations Division.
Police said the full-term newborn baby had an intact umbilical cord, weighed between 2.5 and 2.9 kilograms, and had blood pooling and skin discoloration.
CSWD Officer Liza Bulayungan lamented the incident, saying that mothers regardless of their stage of pregnancy should not engage in an act that does not show appreciation for the sanctity of life.
Social workers appealed to mothers and parents to be strong and not resort to inhumane methods to eliminate their unwanted children.
They and other government and private institutions offer programs and assistance to distressed pregnant women.
