The House Young Guns have now evolved into the Top Guns.
House Speaker Martin Romualdez had this to say during a fellowship dinner at the Imelda Hall, Aguado Residence in Malacañang, on Wednesday night, June 25 that attended by senior congressmen, incoming or returning House members, and the so-called Young Guns bloc.
It was the Young Guns who stole the spotlight after the House leader praised them for their strong performance in the just-concluded 19th Congress.
As such, Romualdez have rechristened the clique as the Top Guns.
“You have to hand it to them, sila talaga ang nagpakita ng gilas ng ating Kongreso. Very eloquent, very learned, very experienced, and always on point. In fact, they are the pride of the 19th Congress and we thank them,” Romualdez, Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) president, said.
Some of the Young Guns who joined the fellowship dinner were House Deputy Majority Leader Paolo Ortega V of La Union, House Special Committee on Bases Conversion and Assistant Majority Leader Jay Khonghun of Zambales, House Ad Hoc Committee on Marawi Rehabilitation and Victims Compensation Chairman Zia Alonto Adiong of Lanao del Sur, 1-Rider Party-list Rep. Rodge Gutierrez, House Assistant Majority Leader Ernix Dionisio of Manila, Cagayan de Oro City Rep. Lordan Suan, and Tingog Party-list Rep. Jude Acidre.
Other prominent Young Guns include Taguig City Rep. Pammy Zamora, Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Jil Bongalon, Nueva Ecija Rep. Mika Suansing, Davao Oriental Rep. Cheeno Almario, and PBA Party-list Rep. Migs Nograles.
Representing the new blood in the House of Representatives, the Young Guns have taken it upon themselves to speak on important and controversial issues and defend the institution at a time of great scrutiny.
They've also served as key partners of veteran solons in furthering priority legislation of the Marcos administration, particularly those listed under the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council or LEDAC measures.
Out of 28 LEDAC measures, the Romualdez-led House approved on third and final reading 27 of them.
