'Habagat', ITCZ to bring scattered rain showers over parts of Luzon, Mindanao
Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected over parts of Luzon and Visayas due to the southwest monsoon and Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Thursday, June 26.
PAGASA weather specialist Chenel Dominguez said no low-pressure area or tropical cyclone is currently being monitored within the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
In the next 24 hours, the southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat,” will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to Kalayaan Islands.
Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and the rest of Palawan may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, the ITCZ will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental.
PAGASA defines ITCZ as a region near the equator where the trade winds meet, pushing warm, moist air upward, and producing clouds, rains, and thunderstorms.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
The public is advised to remain vigilant for possible flash floods and landslides, especially during moderate to heavy rainfall or severe thunderstorms.
