Strengthening financial education and business planning among beneficiaries is seen as key to sustaining the impact of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)’s livelihood assistance programs nationwide.
DOLE said it is enhancing the capacity of regional implementers to ensure its Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) translates into long-term economic opportunities for Filipino workers.
Through its Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns (BWSC), the department launched Business Planning and Financial Education sessions in select areas in Visayas and Mindanao to improve grassroots-level program delivery.
The sessions gathered livelihood focal persons from the Visayas and Mindanao regions, with training conducted in Zamboanga City and Butuan City.
Experts from BWSC, the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC), Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards (RTWPBs), and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) shared practical guidance on financial literacy and enterprise planning to help implementers better support DILP beneficiaries.
“In 2024, a total of 124,742 beneficiaries were provided with assistance under the DILP, with a total amount released of P2.195 billion,” said BWSC Officer-in-Charge Director Leilani M. Reynoso.
She stressed the importance of equipping implementers with the tools to guide recipients in developing viable business plans and making sound financial decisions.
The initiative continues in Clark, Pampanga, and Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, in the coming weeks.
