Vice President Sara Duterte's somewhat evasive answer ad cautelam to her impeachment complaint makes House of Representatives Spokesperson Princess Abante think that the former isn't ready for her bloodbath yet.
''Ah baka wisik-wisik lang daw muna (Ah maybe it's just sprinkle-sprinkle for now),'' Abante said tongue-in-cheek in a press conference Wednesday, June 25, as she described the Duterte camp's submission of its answer.
By saying this, Abante echoed the opinion of her fellow lawyer, House prosecution panel spokesman Antonio Bucoy, who said in a presser Tuesday that the ad cautelam was contrary to Vice President Duterte's previous tough talk wherein she allegedly wanted a bloodbath to take place in the Senate impeachment trial.
Bucoy said ad cautelam means, for caution. He claimed that it was the respondent's way of complying with the order of the impeachment court to answer her charges, but without recognizing the jurisdiction of the Senate to put her on trial.
''Ito po yung tinatawag na wagging the dog, na pinapalitaw na mas importante ang procedure kaysa constitutional law and principles (This is what we called wagging the dog, or to make it appear that that the procedure is more important than constitutional law and principles),'' Bucoy said.
''And importante is the substance Those who cannot address the substance, they rely on technical procedures. Which is what she did here,'' he added.
For Abante, what's important is for Vice President Duterte's trial to, quite simply, happen.
''Pero gusto natin magtuloy-tuloy ang trial, ma-presenta na ang ebidensya. Doon lang natin malalaman yung kasagutan sa lahat ng ating tanong (What we want is for the trial to go on uninterrupted, for the evidence to be presented. Only then will we know the answers to all our questions),'' she said.
