- Police Maj. Gen. Anthony A. Aberin, director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), said it was the kind of response that must be institutionalized since the Manila policemen arrived in the area within three minutes after a phone call was made via 911.
They thought it will take time before the cops would arrive just like before because it was nighttime anyway. But this time, police are quicker.
As a result, the two male suspects were collared while on the act of cutting telephone cables along Juan Luna Street, Binondo, Manila at around 9:34 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24.
Police Maj. Gen. Anthony A. Aberin, director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), said it was the kind of response that must be institutionalized since the Manila policemen arrived in the area within three minutes after a phone call was made via 911.
“Within three minutes, the officers responded to the location and spotted the suspects in the act—cutting and collecting approximately 2.5 meters of telephone cable wires,” said Aberin.
The official also highlighted the need for the cops to be present on the ground.
In the case of this incident, Aberin said those who responded were already conducting routine motorcycle patrol near the area—which made the quick response possible.
President Marcos earlier ordered policemen to increase police visibility and to respond quickly, an order which national police chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III vowed to comply with.
“Your NCRPO has strategically deployed police units all over Metro Manila in order to respond to 911 Calls with swift and precision. Whether it's organized crime or cable theft, our stand is the same: lawlessness has no room to thrive,” said Aberin.
He said the arrested suspects, both 25 years old, now face a case of Theft in relation to Republic Act 10515, or the Anti-Cable Television and Cable Internet Tapping Act of 2013.
“We will continue to raise the bar in anti-crime operations — anchored on high police visibility, real-time response, and people-centered service. But we encourage the public to report suspicious activities through official emergency channels and help keep communities safe and secure,” said Aberin.
