Bulacan 5th district representative-elect Agatha Cruz on Wednesday, June 25, said she will push for measures that will address health and education concerns as well as the perennial flooding in her home region of Central Luzon.
In a press conference, the House neophyte issued her stand on various issues, including the drug war to the use of artificial intelligence (AI).
Cruz, formerly the mayor of Guiguinto, Bulacan, says one of her advocacies is to address flooding in her province by calling for a master plan for flood mitigation, disaster resiliency, and resilient infrastructure.
Cruz also supported the expanded coverage of state health insurer Philippine Health Insurance Corporation or PhilHealth. She said that as a former local chief executive, she witnessed the gaps in providing funds for the people through local government units (LGUs).
Nakikita ko po na marami pang gaps in terms of really finalizing or making the specific arrangements doon sa pagpopondo po ng mga LGUs, ng mga local hospitals, ng district hospitals para yung mga PhilHealth benefits talaga po nating ma-maximize (We're seeing that there are lots of gaps in terms of finalizing or making arrangements in funding LGUs as well as local and district hospitals for the purpose of maximizing our PhilHealth benefits), she said.
Very much welcome yung expanded po na mga coverage for dialysis, napakadami pong dialysis patient (It's a very much welcome development that there's an expand coverage for dialysis patients because there are many of them), she added.
Cruz said she will aggressively advocate for health in the 20th Congress. This will include the promotion of preventive measures at the primary health care level, such as e-Konsulta.
Regarding AI, Cruz admitted that it was a tough thing to fight because it's difficult to keep pace with modern technology.
What she pushes for, instead, is to keep the lines of communication open for clarity amid misinformation and disinformation.
I think that's the only way that we can clarify. We cannot entirely combat dahil mahirap po pangunahan na lagi ang teknolohiya, na isa po lagi sa mga challenges ng lawmaker, how we can effectively regulate, especially technology kasi minsan nauuna po sya (it's hard to keep pace with technology. And that's always one of the challenges of lawmakers, how we can effectively regulate, especially since technology is always advanced), she said.
