Monsoon rains persist over Zambales, Bataan, Palawan on June 25 — PAGASA
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” will continue to affect parts of western Luzon on Wednesday, June 25.
PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said the habagat is being enhanced by a tropical depression that has already exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
The weather disturbance was located 55 kilometers west of Bacnotan, La Union as of 3 a.m. on Wednesday, but is not expected to have a direct impact on the country.
Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are forecast over Zambales, Bataan, and Palawan throughout the day.
PAGASA warned residents in these areas of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to, at times, heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country can expect generally fair weather, with partly cloudy to cloudy skies and localized thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.
“Localized thunderstorms typically last for one to two hours and may be moderate to occasionally intense,” Badrina said.
He added that if the tropical depression intensifies further outside PAR, it could pull the habagat away from the Philippines, possibly leading to warmer weather in the coming days.
“Posible sa mga susunod na araw ay medyo mainit na panahon na naman ang mararanasan sa malaking bahagi ng bansa, pero asahan pa rin natin yung mga localized thunderstorms sa hapon at gabi dahil panahon pa rin ng tag-ulan (In the coming days, much of the country may experience warmer weather again, but we should still expect localized thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening since it is still the rainy season),” he said.
As of Tuesday morning, PAGASA reported no other low-pressure areas or tropical cyclones inside the PAR.
