Local stocks rise as ceasefire calms oil, strengthens peso

The local stock market rose further as the peso firmed up while oil prices dropped due to the ceasefire between Israel and Iran.
The main index added 32.89 points or 0.52 percent to close at 6,325.64 on Wednesday, June 25, with the advance led by the Property sector, although Banks and Industrials declined. Volume was lower at 616 million shares worth P4.67 billion as gainers outnumbered losers 97 to 83, with 60 unchanged.
“Philippine shares rose, and oil prices sank Tuesday as markets welcomed a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Iran, despite mutual accusations of violations,” said Regina Capital Development Corporation Managing Director Luis Limlingan.
US President Trump confirmed the truce remains in effect, though he voiced frustration with both sides.
Philstocks Financial Research Manager Japhet Tantiangco said, “The local market extended its rise on the back of hopes that the Israel-Iran ceasefire would hold. Investors also cheered the effect of the said ceasefire on other relevant markets, including the decline in global oil prices and the rebound of the Philippine Peso against the US Dollar.”
Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation Chief Economist Michael L. Ricafort said the PSEi was higher as global crude oil prices declined to new two-week lows since June 11, 2025, erasing all of the increase in global crude oil prices since the Israel-Iran attacks started on June 13, 2025.
He noted that lower oil prices and the stronger peso “could lead to some rollback in local fuel pump prices after the recent increase” and would ease the recent pressure on overall inflation.
