GCash, the country’s leading e-wallet, has partnered with the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) to make the verification process for accounts more seamless through the national ID.
Through this partnership, Filipinos are now able to use their national ID—whether in the form of card, paper, or digital—to verify their GCash accounts.
In a statement, PSA Undersecretary Claire Dennis Mapa said the national ID and its authentication services guarantee that confirming one’s identity will be more seamless and secure.
“By integrating the national ID with financial institutions like GCash, the PSA empowers more Filipinos with access to essential financial services and equips organizations with streamlined customer onboarding and enhanced trust and security, said Mapa.
While the national ID program has yet to be fully implemented, over 92 million Filipinos have already registered to get their records in the system, with more than 50 million IDs already delivered.
G-Xchange Inc., the mobile wallet operator of GCash, said tapping into this substantial base highlights the importance of cooperation in strengthening digital financial inclusion.
“By allowing users to verify their accounts with their National ID, we are breaking barriers and ensuring that more Filipinos can seamlessly access safe and reliable digital transactions, said G-Xchange Inc. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ren-Ren Reyes.
Based on data from GCash, eight out of 10 Filipinos are using its services, or approximately 94 million of the entire population.
The e-wallet expects the inclusion of the national ID in the verification stage to ensure accurate identity validation, while strengthening fraud prevention.
“The integration marks a significant step in simplifying onboarding while ensuring secure, seamless transactions for all GCash users,” it said.
