The native tree information activity and giving away of native tree seeds will be held this Saturday, June 28, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon in front of the Palma Hall at UP Diliman.
The event is being jointly conducted by the U.P. Resilience Institute (UPRI), the Philippine Native Tree Enthusiasts (PNTE), and the Philippine Association of University Women (PAUW) – U.P. Chapter. While native tree seeds will still be given for free, the seedlings, being one to two feet tall, will be sold at a minimal cost. The native tree seedlings will be those of ipil, mabolo, malubago, siar, putat, molave, bani, kayumanis, pamitoyen, balitbitan, leea, narra, kalumpit, and bagawak morado.
The books that are available for sale, while supplies last, include “Alay: Philippine Native Trees at the Victor O. Ramos Arboretum,” “A Naturalist Guide to Birds of the Philippines,” and “A Naturalist Guide to Butterflies of the Philippines.”
The interest in growing native trees has gained traction over the past decade, with more and more persons growing native trees in pocket forests.
Participants will learn more about native trees, particularly in planting them with help from the UPRI, PNTE, and PAUW-UP.
