DreamWorks Animation has announced its original film, Forgotten Island, inspired by Philippine mythology, will be released in theaters on September 25, 2026.
Although the plot details are not fully disclosed, the film is described as a broad, comedic adventure that takes the protagonists to a long-forgotten magical island, inspired by Philippine mythology, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Joel Crawford, known for directing *Puss in Boots: The Last Wish* and *The Croods: A New Age*, will direct and co-write the upcoming project alongside Januel Mercado. Crawford's longtime collaborator, Mark Swift, will serve as producer. The duo previously received multiple award nominations, including an Oscar, for their critically acclaimed sequel to *Puss in Boots*, which was released in theaters in 2022.
Forgotten Island is Mercado’s first full directing credit after having previously co-directed Puss in Boots 2. He also served as the head of story for Crawford’s The Croods 2.
Under the leadership of Margie Cohn, DreamWorks Animation has enjoyed success with films like 'The Bad Guys' and 'The Wild Robot.'
In addition to the live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon 2, the animation studio owned by Universal has an upcoming slate that includes 'The Bad Guys 2,' 'Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie,' and 'Shrek 5.'
