Village chair, 3 others killed as rescue vehicle plunges into river

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Four people were killed and 12 were rescued after a rescue vehicle of Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur plunged into the Dapitan River in Libertad, Zamboanga del Norte on Monday, June 23.
The Libertad Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office said the vehicle, a green Fuso Canter, was approaching the spillway when the right front wheel suddenly detached.
FOUR people were killed when a rescue vehicle transporting people from a religious gathering plunged into the Dapitan River on June 23.
The driver lost control of the vehicle which plunged into the river.
Four people were killed – Senote Barangay Captain Nicanor Alfuro Jr., 50, Michelle Alfuro, 25; Nathan Alfuro, 12, and Roxan Calibugan.
Two were taken to a hospital where they were declared dead. The two others were recovered in the river.
Rescued were Bernafe Sabanal, 30; Marion Nanong, 41; Anabelle Alfuro, 46; Ivy Manyacap, 18; Juli Mark Sabanal, 15; Robelyn Alforo, 29; Richard Galay, 36; Bernadette Laranio, 37; Uzil Jean Plando, 9; Kenneth Bajao, 5; Sam Alfuro, 18; and Conchita Alforo, 58.
They were on their way home from a religious fellowship gathering in Calamba, Misamis Occidental when the accident happened.
