Sinag Liga Asya continues its effort to boost basketball grassroots with its SLA Junior World Showcase Mindanao Cup from July 5 to 11 at the Cagayan de Oro City.
Teams from across the country and the globe and composed of young, Filipino aspiring basketball players will be testing each other’s mettle in the week-long tournament in the 13, 15, 17, 19, and 21-Under divisions.
“This is our second edition after last year. From 24 teams last year, we're now 36 teams. And we'll be playing almost a week of tournament for three basketball courts in Cagayan De Oro,” said SLA chairman Rocky Chan said during the league’s official memorandum of agreement signing with PTV Sports over the weekend at the Gimaca Boutique and Hotel Café in Mandaluyong.
Also gracing the event are LA President Ray Alao, chief operating officer Leo Isaac, deputy commissioners John Ferriols and EJ Feihl, PTV Overseer of Sales and Marketing and Legal Head Atty. Pamela Parce, and Network General Manager Atty. Robert Doller.
“We're so happy kasi international teams are around 15 to 20 teams plus our local teams from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao are well represented,” added Chan who also stressed how big of a milestone the tournament is for Sinag Liga Asya especially with its objective of further strengthening the grassroots.
“It’s a very big opportunity for us, especially that now we have a home that we can say a TV partner, a TV network that would be able to wider our scope in developing grassroots,” he added.
