Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said the government is currently crafting the framework and working on the establishments of hubs that will focus on understanding AI.
“[N]gayon po ay naggagawa na po sila ng framework at pati po iyong pag-develop po ng hubs na ang focus po ay on understanding artificial intelligence (They are now working on a framework, including the development of hubs focused on understanding artificial intelligence),” Castro said, referring to the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
She said the President wants regular policy recommendations on its application in the country, as well as research findings.
“Ang inuutos po ng Pangulo ay magkaroon po ng tuluy-tuloy na pag-aaral patungkol po sa AI advantages at disadvantages po nito, ang application po nito sa bansa at iyong mga best practices nito sa ibang mga bansa at magkaroon po ng regular na policy recommendations and research findings. So, nandoon naman po (The President has instructed that there be continuous study on the advantages and disadvantages of AI, its application in the country, and the best practices from other nations. There should also be regular policy recommendations and research findings. So, that is already underway),” Castro said.
Last week, the Palace emphasized that sharing of fake news, including those generated by AI, should not be done by government officials.
Castro added that if they ever do so, it is their responsibility to acknowledge that they shared a video which is not true or real.
