CEBU CITY – Dengue cases in Central Visayas this year are approaching 6,000.
The Department of Health-Central Visayas (DOH-7) on Tuesday, June 24, reported that 5,880 dengue cases with 10 deaths have been recorded in the region.
During the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas media forum at the Philippine Information Agency regional office here, Dr. Ronald Jarvik Buscato said Cebu province has the most dengue cases so far with 2,939.
Bohol is in second with 1,275 followed by Cebu City with 999. Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue cities have 378 and 289 cases, respectively.
With still six months to go before the year ends, Buscato said that the region has already matched last year’s number of dengue cases.
The number of cases in the first six months this year is three percent higher compared to the same period last year, said Buscato, head of DOH-7’s Communicable Diseases Section
There were 5,694 dengue cases in the first half of 2024.
With the rising dengue cases, Buscato reminded the public to immediately seek medical attention during the early signs of symptoms.
Common symptoms of dengue include high fever, severe headaches, joint and muscle pain, and skin rashes.
Buscato also empahasized the importance of prevention, especially in highly urbanized areas.
The agency also reminded the public of “4S” strategy against dengue – Search and destroy mosquito breeding sites, secure self-protection, seek early consultation, and support fogging and misting in high-case areas.
