Filipina cross-country specialist Shagne Yaoyao outshone hometown bets by winning the silver medal in the 2025 Coupe du Japon International Kyoto Yubune Stage in Wazuka Town, Japan over the weekend.
Yaoyao, 28, proved her worth with after timing in 51 minutes and 39 seconds to clinch the second spot in the women elite class where she was the lone non-Japanese rider.
Japan’s Chihane Kitatsuru (50:49), who is the youngest in the category at the age of 19, snared the gold, while her compatriot Maiha Takemura (54:02) settled for the bronze in the 12-woman field.
Yaoyao's win is also expected to boost her UCI points as the tournament was sanctioned by the world governing body for cycling.
The three-time National Open champion is currently ranked No. 95 in the global list of the distaff side where she holds 413 points.
The Cebuana cyclist aims to qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Games after falling short of entering the previous edition in Paris, France last August.
