Cignal continued its winning ways and dispatched struggling Capital1, 25-21, 25-22, 25-16, to stay unbeaten in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) on Tour at the Chavit Coliseum in Vigan, Ilocos Sur on Monday, June 23.
Gel Cayuna distributed the ball well with her playmaking skills by delivering 27 excellent sets on top of three aces, allowing her teammates to contribute a little of everything on their way to a second straight victory in Pool B.
Erika Santos paved the way for the HD Spikers after unloading 11 points built on eight kills and three blocks, even as Roselyn Doria chipped in 10 points.
Ishie Lalongisip also stepped up on the offensive floor for Cignal by firing all her eight points on attacks, even as Jacqueline Acuna and Heather Guino-o combined for 15 points.
The HD Spikers needed a little over one hour and 30 minutes to dispatch the Solar Spikers, dominating them on all fronts particularly on attacks by blasting 44 kills compared to the latter’s 30.
Cignal also posted nine blocks -- five from both Santos and Guino-o -- while also unleashing four aces.
The HD Spikers managed to claim the second set despite tumbling into 11 errors, adjusting their pace in the third by attacking on all fronts.
Only seven players scored for the Solar Spikers with Rovena Instrella as the lone double-digit scorer with 11 points.
Later in the day, Creamline overcame a second-set stumble and turned back Akari, 27-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-18, to also clinch its second straight win in Pool B.
Michele Gumabao carried the fight for the Cool Smashers by pumping in 18 points built on 14 kills, while skipper Alyssa Valdez flashed her vintage form and fired 13 attacks to finish with 16 points.
Two other players scored in double figures with Jema Galanza contributing 12 points and Sheena Toring posting 10 points.
Akari absorbed its second straight defeat despite the 18-point output of Grethcel Soltones.
