Driver crushed to death by his own vehicle in Rizal freak accident
Authorities use a backhoe to remove the destroyed Toyota Hi-Ace van the victim was driving after it accidentally plunged down the road in Rodriguez, Rizal.
A 51-year-old driver was dragged and subsequently crushed by the passenger van he was driving after it accidentally plunged into a steep road in Barangay Mascap, Rodriguez, Rizal on Saturday night, June 21.
According to Lt. Col. Paul Sabulao, Rodriguez Municipal Police chief, the driver and his passengers were supposed to go to a camping site in the barangay when he heard a loud sound coming from his vehicle after going up a steep road.
The driver went out of the vehicle to check on the sound but forgot to pull the handbrake, causing it to plunge back down the road dragging him.
Sabulao said the van's passengers, all of them tourists, heard the driver shout for them to pull the handbrake. However, the sudden movement of the vehicle caused them to panic and fail to stop it from sliding downward.
The vehicle slid down for several meters before coming to a stop after hitting the side of the road. All of the passengers were safe.
Meanwhile, the driver's crushed body was eventually found by the authorities after moving the van.
Authorities are still investigating the incident.
