'Habagat' to dampen Metro Manila, other Luzon areas; ITCZ to affect parts of Mindanao — PAGASA
Rains may affect Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon due to the southwest monsoon, while scattered showers brought by the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) may prevail over some areas in Mindanao, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday, June 22.
PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said there is currently no Low-Pressure Area inside or near the Philippine Area of Responsibility, and the likelihood of a tropical cyclone forming in the coming days remains low.
However, Badrina noted that a high chance of rain, particularly in the afternoon and evening, is expected to persist throughout the week across several parts of the country.
Over the next 24 hours, cloudy skies with scattered rain and thunderstorms may prevail over Metro Manila, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan due to the habagat.
Meanwhile, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated habagat rain showers or thunderstorms may affect Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Bulacan, Aurora, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Laguna, Rizal, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon.
Aside from western Luzon, Western Visayas and Negros Island Region are also expected to experience rainfall brought by the habagat in the coming days.
Badrina explained that, in addition to afternoon or evening thunderstorms and generally cloudy skies, the habagat typically brings rainfall during the early morning hours.
“So sa mga umaalis papuntang opisina at mag-aaral papuntang eskwelahan, pagdating ng madaling-araw, asahan niyo malaki rin ang tyansa ng mga pag-ulan (Commuters heading to work or students going to school in the early hours should expect a high chance of rain),” he said.
Meanwhile, Badrina said the ITCZ continues to affect parts of Davao Region and Soccsksargen, bringing scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.
The rest of the country will experience hot noontime temperatures with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms likely in the afternoon and evening.
PAGASA advised the public to remain alert for possible flash floods and landslides, especially during moderate to heavy rainfall or severe thunderstorms.
