Heavier vehicles are prohibited from using the Dimasalang Bridge in Manila starting Saturday, Jun. 21, as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) implements revised load restrictions based on updated structural assessments.
In a report from the DPWH–North Manila District Engineering Office, the agency said the adjustments were made following inspections and load testing that led to a recalibration of the bridge’s allowable weight limits.
To preserve the integrity of the decades-old structure, the DPWH has reduced load capacities for specific vehicle classifications: MS18 and Type 1-3 vehicles are now limited to 9 tons; Type 1-1 and 1-2 to 8 tons; Type 1 2-2 to 11 tons; and Type 1 2-3 to 12 tons.
Vehicles exceeding these thresholds are being rerouted to nearby thoroughfares such as Lacson Avenue, Maria Clara Street, and Magsaysay Boulevard, where traffic buildup is expected, particularly during peak hours.
The DPWH National Capital Region said signages and public advisories have been installed at key locations, with coordination ongoing with traffic enforcers to ensure smooth implementation and monitor compliance.
Some truck drivers admitted they had yet to receive official notice but expressed willingness to comply with the directive in support of preserving the bridge.
“This measure is part of our ongoing commitment to ensure the structural integrity of public infrastructure and the safety of all road users,” the agency said as it appealed for public cooperation in protecting the bridge from premature deterioration.
