The province of Ilocos Sur welcomed the opening of a coliseum named after former Gov. Chavit Singson in Vigan City on Saturday, June 21.
CHAVIT BIRTH ANNIVERSARY – Former Ilocos Sur Gov. Chavit Singson is greeted ‘Happy Birthday’ as he enters the newly inaugurated Chavit Coliseum in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur on Saturday, June 21.
The event started at 4 p.m. with the blessing of the Chavit Coliseum, followed by a Mass, and the induction of newly elected provincial officials.
Highlight of the event was inauguration of the 9,000-seat facility and the launching of the book about Singson entitled “CHAVIT Legend of the Philippines” written by Maciej Mikurda.
Singson, League of Municipalities of the Philippines president emeritus, delivered a message, along with reelected Gov. Jerry Singson.
The event ended with a banquet and performances from local artists.
Singson said in an interview with a radio station here that the coliseum will boost tourism in the province.
He said that the Chavit Coliseum, aside from sporting events, can also host conventions and concerts and other big events.
Singson also said in an interview that the coliseum will contribute immensly to the province’s coffers.
Along with the opening of the coliseum, Singson also celebrated his birth anniversary on June 21.
Singson last served as mayor Narvacan, Ilocos Sur from 2019 to 2022. He was governor of Ilocos Sur from 1972 to 1986, from 1992 until 2001, from 2004 to 2007, and 2010 until 2013.
