All members of popular K-pop boy band BTS have now completed their mandatory military service after Suga finished his social work on June 21.
Suga enlisted on Sept. 22, 2023 and served as a social work personnel for 21 months, an alternative form of military service.
On June 21, he posted a letter on the fan community platform Weverse.
“It's been about 2 years. How have you all been? I've been discharged from my call-up today, so I'm greeting you all for the first time in a while. It's a day I've been waiting for, and it's been a really long time, so I had a lot of thoughts on how to greet you,” he told Armys (fans).

He said, “First and foremost, I wanted to sincerely thank the fans who have waited for me. I really missed you.”
“I think I've had time to think about myself for the past two years. In particular, I felt like I needed to take a step back and distance myself from the things I've been doing for a long time. I've been running forward without looking back at myself, but this time has become an opportunity for me to reflect on myself,” he said.
Suga said, “To Armys, thank you and thank you for waiting. And I'm sorry for disappointing and worrying you with what happened last year. More than anything, I'm so upset that I hurt the fans' feelings. I'm also sorry to the members who must have felt heavy-hearted in their respective positions because of me.”
“I will work even harder to repay the love you've given me in the future. I love you guys, I will keep you posted often,” he said.
Last September, the Seoul Western District Court issued a summary order against Suga, imposing a fine of 15 million won (about $11,000) for driving an electric scooter while intoxicated in Seoul.
The incident happened on Aug. 6 last year with CCTV footage showing Suga riding an electric scooter on a sidewalk and falling down as he turned left to enter the main gate of Nine One Hannam luxury apartment complex in Hannam, Yongsan in Seoul.
Suga’s completion of military service meant that all BTS members had finished their military service.
Jin was the first to enlist on Dec. 13, 2022 and was discharged on June 12 last year. J-Hope followed suit, enlisting on April 18, 2023 and completed his military service on Oct. 17 last year.
RM and V enlisted on Dec. 11, 2023 and were discharged last June 10. Jungkook and Jimin enlisted on Dec. 12, 2023 and completed their mandatory duty last June 11.
